The Range of hardware for commercial doors is very extensive and many manufacturers such as and others, specialise in hardware for commercial doors. We are on hand to advise if you have any specific requirements.
Typical Commercial Door Entry and Exit Hardware:
Hook Locks:
Any hook lock specified and fitted is a single point lock operated by a swing bolt. Please note that the door remains unlocked if the hook lock is thrown back to the open position.
These locks are suitable for main entrance doors that do not require any form of exit or access control. They can also be used as means of night time security on doors with access control systems. They are available in a “monitored” form, meaning they can be connected to building alarm and fire systems and appropriate control panels.
- Most hook locks are provided with a europrofile cylinder.
- A thumbturn is required if you wish to operate the lock from the inside.
- Should you require multi-point locking, the hook lock is available with additional header and threshold bolts operated at the same time as the main hook bolt which will provide 3-point locking.
- Should you require additional security at the keep an armoured strike can be provided.
Latch Locks
Should you require the door to latch shut (locked) every time a Latch Lock will need to be provided. Most latch locks are single point locks operated by either lever handles both sides, lever inside/key entry outside or key/key operation.
- Most latch locks are provided with a europrofile cylinder.
- A thumbturn is required if you wish to operate the lock from the inside.
- Should you require multi-point locking, latch locks should be specified with an additional hook lock to be used upon final exit for night-time security.
- Latch locks are provided with standard strike plates using a rounded face plate or double doors and flat standard plate for single doors.
Should you require the door to be operated internally by something other than a key or a thumbturn:
An internal lever handle is available or push/pull to exit paddle handles.Paddle handles are also available with dogging facility (latch hold-back) as standard should you wish to use the door freely for entry and exit during daytime hours.
There are also various methods of gaining entry from the outside, such as external lever handles shown here by the excellent and very popular Adams Rite Range. Adams Rite have been specifically manufacturing commercial door hardware
Electric Strikes
Electric strikes offer remote electric opening to either single or double doors and should be specified where the building requires controlled entry and exit.Electric strikes can work in conjunction with latch type panic exit devices, standard latch locks and are available monitored if required in conjunction with building alarm and fire systems with appropriate control panel.
Panic Bars and Other Exit Devices
Typical panic exit devices available for commercial doors and suitable for many applications include:
- Axim 7085 concealed vertical rod (CVR) exit device for 2 point locking.
- Axim 7095 exit device for single point locking.
- Adams Rite 8400 exit device for single point locking.
- Adams Rite 8600 CVR exit device for 2 point locking.
Panic bars for double doors include:
- Axim 7085 concealed vertical rod (CVR) exit device with each leaf working independently.
- Axim 7095 exit device to lead leaf with Axim 7085 CVR exit device to slave leaf, where rebated stiles are fitted.
- Axim 7095 or Axim 7085 CVR exit device to the lead leaf only, and slave leaf with standard flushbolts.
- Adams Rite 8600 CVR exit device with each leaf working independently.
- Adams Rite 8400 exit device to lead leaf with 8600 CVR exit device toslave leaf, where rebated stiles are fitted.
- Adams Rite 8400 or 8600 CVR exit device to the lead leaf only, and slave leaf with standard flushbolts.
External Access
This is required where the door fitted with an exit device needs to be openable from the outside. If you require a door to be for emergency exit only and it is not to be used as an entrance door, external access is not required.
Panic bars are provided with round cylinders to the outside where external access is required.Europrofile cylinders are not available.
•A lever handle is available on Adams Rite 840 and 860 exit devices
•Dogging (latch/rod hold-back facility) is a standard on all exit devices.
All types of exit devices where required with external access will have a standard pad handles fitted to the outside to enable the door to be pulled open once the latch has been retracted with a key or for the door to be generally pulled open from the outside. No handles will be provided to doors without external access.
Additional locks are not recommended with any door designed for emergency exit and should this be needed it is recommended approval is sought first from the professional safety bodies.
Push/Pull to exit devices
These operate internally similar to a panic bar and are used where occupants of the building are more likely to be familiar with the door in question and its operation.
•If a hook lock is required for additional (night time) security you can only use a single point latch type exit device and not one requiring concealed vertical rods.
•If you do not require additional locking a standard rod-type exit device can be used.
